yes! a phonological argument against behaviorism!
As part of my project of condensing and archiving my phonology notes into one super awesome moleskine, I reviewed the arguments for the dual-level hypothesis in Kenstowicz 1994, and I found a token mention of the disutility of extreme behaviorist empiricism in phonology. YES! I exclaimed. Most of generative linguistics’ anti-behaviorist (hence psychologically meaningful) arguments come from...

why Bonnie Prince Billy isn’t the one singing.

Dance For Me, Asshole
Yesteday Chris sent me an IM telling me that Fever Ray was about to release a cover of one of his favorite Nick Cave songs. As it turns out, the song is “Stranger Than Kindness,” but my guess was “Bitch Killed In The Moonlight.” This led us to brainstorm other song titles for artists that essentially summarize their lyrical themes. – Ludwig Wittgenstein: Blue Book (via fuckyeahphilosophy)
This is a decent quote, but it’s also tautological. (Like all the truths of philosophy, right Wittgenstein?) since by definition, the things besides the sciences are metaphysics.

On Inglourious Basterds -or- Tarantino's...
Most remarks on film begin with a summary of the plot and then thoughts on those events. With Inglourious Basterds, it seems likely more effective to reverse this formula because it is not a film composed of things like events that then create what you’d call meaning; the film is pure meaning and Tarantino’s most referential, despite its seeming the least.
If Tarantino never made...

Help me understand: "Blackwater"
Can you explain the political importance of Blackwater in three sentences? (themattsmith)
Blackwater are like a company of cats, ie, paid mercenaries who kill people and do things for the US government when the US government wants to say troop levels are down. This guy Jeremy Scahill is basically a shark. He wrote a great book about Blackwater and the whole top off it.
