There is this thing currently going around tumblr about why dating a writer is good. I think it’s nice that this thing is going around, because I like writers, and lots of us could use more dates. As a writer who has dated people, though — including other writers — I would like to offer correctives to this list.

I was actually going to do this. Damn you, Nitsuh. As a person who’s like 30% writer dating someone who’s 110% writer, I think I have a good perspective on this. Nitsuh’s correctives are humorously overstated, but the essence of them is correct. Writing and writers are boring people. I know some writers, and they’re by far the most shut-in people. Like Russian mathematicians without the formal elegance.
