“Banditos” by The Refreshments
(Words/Music: Roger Clyne and Brian Blush, Album: Fizzy Fuzzy Big and Buzzy, Mercury 1996)
themesong: with friends like you
I’ll assume the “with friends like you” is the beginning of the phrase which ends “who needs enemies.” And in that sense, the lone hit by mid-90s alt-rockers The Refreshments is perfect for today. The song, for those of you too young to remember (or those old enough to be having memory issues), is about a hold up in which the singer/narrator convinces his friend that after the robbery, they should split up and that he’ll take the money and they’ll “divvy up” later. Umm, yeah… with friends like him…
Everybody knows
That the world is full of stupid people
So meet me at the mission at midnight
We’ll divvy up there
Everybody knows
That the world is full of stupid people
Well I got the pistol so I’ll keep the Pesos
Yeah and that seems fair
I freaking love this song!
