wait can i just say something?

I THINK: bonerparty is written by two dudes. one of whom is nedhepburn and the other is illinoisairship. nedhepburn really burned my balls and i have never really been down with the bonerparty stuff. so i unfollowed them both.

however, the post that illinoisairship did about funny girls was really the first one that rubbed me the wrong way.as a general rule his writing is entertaining and kind of poignant without being too gushy (note: i do not know this person at all fyi) yeah sometimes i react with an “ew” or a “oh hell no” but he reminds me of that first older dude you dated in college? the one who was totally funny but made you feel just a little insecure? and you couldn’t put your finger on why but then you realized it was because you had different ideas about fundamental stuff and it kind of blew up all nasty like and he went to australia and fucked a bunch of really unattractive women. but now 5 years later you’ve both kind of mellowed and you can see that despite your mutual fuck ups and the fact that you don’t see eye to eye on a lot of stuff, he’s funny and entertaining and you can see why people like him. so you hand him a beer and smile because….well, its not worth getting that upset about anymore.

I totally disagree.  Acting like this stuff isn’t a big deal is what enables people to continue to treat it like it’s not a big deal.  None of this shit happens in a vaccuum, and there are over 100 notes on that bullshit already, meaning a good number of people actually agree with his misogynistic bullshit.  Saying it’s not worth getting upset about is an abject denial of the basis of this ha-ha jokey misogyny in what seems to me to be a deeply-seated (and, at this point, thinly-veiled) hatred of women.  The purpose of the post was to tell us women that we are overly emotional and take things too seriously — and you’re feeding right into it.

This is exactly the point. Hand A is all like, Women take things too seriously. Hand B is all like taking things seriously. The question is is there a “too” involved? What’s too seriously?

The political lesbian post on The Patriarchy suggests that all hetero sex is rape. I mean, it actually doesn’t just suggest it; it says it. Obviously, not all feminists think that position is valid.

What I see on Tumblr is a rising tide of sentiment that jokey misogyny is NOT OK. Obviously, this is still a minority view, but it’s gaining traction on my dashboard. I think it’s difficult to debate the relative merit of various approaches to humor (the Sarah Silverman rape joke?), but it’s important to realize when someone is putting down women—or anyone.

It’s pretty clear the Boner Party’s M.O. is jokey misogyny. So, you’ll have to decide if that’s OK with you or not.
