This is all part of the cruelty of depression. If the rambling seems senseless, that’s because depression operates without sense. It sneaks up on you even when things are going great. You can have everything you’ve ever wanted, and depression will eventually find its way from the back burner of your brain to the very front.

Rookie » Two Blocks Over

I’ve been kind of reluctant to throw my full support behind Rookie, mostly because I’m (perhaps unreasonably?) squicked out by the bizarre personality cult that shrouds Tavi and I haven’t yet figured out how to express my appreciation of her obvious talent in a way that doesn’t put me among the masses of grown ass internet women flagellating themselves at her tiny Miu Miu clogged feet. But! This post is gutting—not just poignant but important, and clear-headed, and the best of many things I’ve read so far on the site that I wish I’d had when I was a teenager.

Not really sure why people — and I really do not mean to single out the cool Rachel Maddux in particular — seem to put the horse orthogonal to the cart and get down on things because they’re made by certain people rather than getting down on people because they made shitty things, but you all should read Rookie because it’s good. (And not hate/love that girl who sang the national anthem just because of who she is or whatever, too. That’s the thing that’s really in my craw this afternoon.)

Plus full disclohze: my partner writes for Rookie, and I think her stuff is really good on there, too.
