“I got a girl on my arm, dude. Show respect. / Something crazy and Asian. #VirginiaTech”
Yeah. This song at about 24 minutes in on Camp has me turning it off. I’m done with Donald Glover and his pseudo-Odd Future rap. (The same song has a line about fucking a rhinoceros, which, come on. At least Tyler’s stupidity is somewhat original.)
Elsewhere, I think he threatens to rape the listener:
‘I wrote on rape culture my junior year at Brown,
So I’m allowed to say what his raps are about.’
You better shut your mouth before I fuck it.
I would almost say the song is a parody of Odd Future if it didn’t start out as indistinguishable from Glover’s other songs about not being perceived as ‘black enough’. His music is so smart, and raises so many interesting questions. But then its intelligence abruptly drops by half, as if being a person of color means being stupid. I kind of thought Glover would be better than that.
