Yeah, I keep writing/reblogging posts and then deleting them. Basically, I don’t think any good will come of Canada Rocks/America Sucks debates.
Let it suffice to say that I love my country and I’m proud of my country, and there’s never been a day in my life when I didn’t feel free. I love that I have the right to choose who I marry, regardless of their gender. I love that I have a year of maternity leave available to me, should I choose. I love that fathers have the right to take paternity leave. I love that I feel safe—I love that my city, despite its size, has an incredibly low crime rate. I love that my country chooses peace over aggression. I love that money is pumped into education and health care rather than the military. I love that we value social programs. I love that I can go into the hospital and not come out in debt. I love that I can travel anywhere in the world and be greeted with a smile. I love that we actually separate church and state. Hell, I love that I can walk down the street topless and smoking a joint.
I love my country, as I know you all love yours. It’s cool, though, we can all get along.
I believe you’re the one who is always putting down the US and whatever other organized bodies you don’t like in order to make some sort of broader positive point about something you do like.
