“Fifty bucks and a case of Heineken will get you a lot of things, especially if you’re an NBA general manager.”
Some verbiage trying to get you to click the link to Bill Simmons’ latest article in which he makes the case for Almost Famous being The Movie Of The 00s.
It’s great that he (or some editor) chose that particular moment from the film to lead into his story since it’s the point at which the film’s sexual politics go from atavistic to disgusting. It’s staggering, the amount that Simmons fails to get it.
He also picks this line, “ I love you. And I’m about to boldly go where … many men have gone before,” to illustrate some arcane point about the (really really, am I right?) Byzantine NBA salaray cap. As in, “Hey, I’m about to start raping you,” says something about the Spurs? I don’t see the connection.
