Gorecki (pronounced like a combination of Gore and Gretzky) has died at the age of 76. Along with Penderecki, he was probably the foremost Polish composer of his generation, and one of the great modern composers.

His music is to put it bluntly quite sad. It’s as if death is inscribed in his music. In fact, I wasn’t even aware that he was still alive until I saw his obituary today in the New York Times.
