Pavement - Spit On A Stranger
I never got into Pavement, despite spending a shitload of emusic credits on those deluxe reissues. It’s hard for me to get into music when the band sounds bored (Slanted and Enchanted). This song is very pleasant though. I need to visit their later stuff clearly.

I think (you asked what I think, right?) that the slacker-rock thing gets used too much with regard to Pavement—especially Slanted and Enchanted. Oh, it’s lazy and bored and so… slacker. This a dead descriptive trope; it is clearly absent (as much as something can be “clearly absent—” a contradiction in terms if there ever were one) as a motif from the album. Their debut album—besides touching on the unnerve of youth; corruption of international banking; choking on metaphysical thirst; sex/death; and yes summer flings—is just bleeding brio. If they’re a little too happy with the Velvet Underground, well maybe they are. But they take the disjointed, noisy cool and run with it faster and further than most any other bands.
And Slanted and Enchanted is probably their worst album. So yes, you should (clearly) visit their later stuff.
