“Cannabis is not a health problem, [sic] the problem is that it promotes social values and attitudes that are unwelcome in capitalist, market based societies. It is just that simple. A drug like coffee, with a horrendous health profile when compared to Cannabis, is completely welcomed into the market place and the home and the lifestyle of modern people. We value certain states of mind and we fear and suspect others.”
Terence McKenna

There is also the empirical fact that smoking pot causes (I’m going to use the c-word but really I guess I mean something like weakly-yet-persistently correlates) laziness, social anxiety, impaired perception, slow concept formation, and a number of things that don’t mesh with the capitalist (read: Doing Shit For Money To Feed Yourself And Buy Nice Things) society.
Cannabis is not a health problem. The problem is that is promotes social values and attitudes that are generally undignified unless you’re passion is making beats or watching films or listening to music or going on hikes. It’s not terrible, but it doesn’t lend itself to productivity.
So if your end is to impair productivity (which is fine, Foucault, Marx, Whatever blah blah blah) then by all means. People who are down on pot aren’t a bunch of assholes. I’d rather be around people w/whom I can talk.
