QuickCursor by Hog Bay Software
I just spent $5 to have a significantly worse alt + tab.
I read a few blog posts that very positively “reviewed” this app. While the reviews didn’t get into the specifics, I thought, “Well, I trust this writer. I’ll go buy it.” Now that I’ve had some time to use the app, I see why I didn’t think reviewers didn’t get into QuickCursor’s specifics: There are none.
This app does more or less (spoiler alert: less) what alt+tab does. Except it only works for some apps and for some writing apps. If you use the free app Alfred (or Quicksilver or Spotlight!) or the paid app LaunchBar, you will have a significantly better user experience. If you know how to use copy+paste and alt+tab, you already have the user experience offered by this app. If this app were free, I would just shrug and uninstall it. The fact that I’ve paid five bucks for it makes me a little less trusting of many blog writers.
There’s clearly a halo effect from WriteRoom for Hog Bay Software. They are a great company that makes many great apps, but this app is not worth anything.
[Full Disclosure: I used copy+paste and alt+tab to write this review. I was not paid any money by copy+paste or alt+tab, though.]
