Preliminary notes: my list is very college-nostalgia-centric. Ryan Adams’ has fallen unreasonably low, maybe, in wider estimation. The 1996 Silver Jews album would probably be #2 if it were available — which it’s not for whatever reason. OK Computer was the dude sitting in the green room looking queasy as it fell down the draft board. I like Animal Collective for its historicity more than its music (at least versus the top ten).
