The reason there are thousands of tumblr sites and countless photo blogs that don’t get noticed is because most content creators don’t self-edit. If it sucks, don’t post it. Keep your brain farts to yourself. People who post every little quip or notion that pops into their head are assholes, because they’re tacitly saying “fuck you” to the reader. They’re saying “your time isn’t as valuable as mine, so rather than me spending my time to edit down my content, I’ll let you read it all and sift for good content for me.” It’s lazy. I edit myself into oblivion. Probably too much. I wrote or started to write 13 articles last year, and only posted 1.

Maddox, king of the fucking internets. (via alaskamiller)

What he’s failing to notice is that people use their computers a lot and aren’t necessarily looking for quality content on a minute-to-minute basis. Sometimes we like being shallow. It’s easier. You laugh more. It’s okay to fart.

I’ma just chip in. I unfollow almost everyone who regularly posts inane bullshit, and I try not to post inane bullshit. I basically despise Maddox, but he’s 100% right, here. Learn to self-edit.

You know those people who say every thought (‘thought) that flits through his/her head?

You know the people who tweet ‘It’s STILL FUCKING SNOW! UGH!! FML!’

You know those people whose facebook status updates are ‘TGIF!!!’

You know those people who just reblog pictures w/out comment or post all-title posts to the effect of ‘SOME GUY ON THE ELEVATOR SMELLED BAD’ or ‘I SPILLED KETCHUP ON MY SWEATER!’

If that’s what you want to spend literally years of your life looking at, if you want to sift through cruft all day, then whatever. But if you encourage people to do that and participate in that form of life, then you’re attenuating the great, mysterious, bounded-transcendental existence you(‘re blessed to) have.

Some of my favorite tumblrs post inane shit, too. But they’d be my favoriter tumblrs if they limited their output or raised their quality output.
