“His — and anyone’s — greatness is always up for debate. James Wood (otherwise known as OMGJamesWoodIlovehimsomuch) did/does not like DFW’s stuff very much at all. I don’t think any artist is above reproach.”
Thus Spake nerdshares.
Yes, I hope people were understanding that my claim was not that people are censoring me or what have you. My claim is that overwhelmingly, people’s attachment to DFW in these circles makes it difficult to advance a critique without getting accused of soiling his Legacy or what have you. And that makes it not much of a conducive atmosphere for said debate.

I’m just going to RB this, and likely undercut my point. I see that DFW is overrepresented in circles like these. Discussing, evaluating, and critiquing his legacy (rather than just slobbing his knob via voluminous quote) would be like way better. And I know that you weren’t necessarily trying to start an intelligent conversation about him. (Although it seems like such a conversation is implied when you say that it’s difficult to advance a critique without being subjected to nontopical replies.) But if that is something that interests you, then why don’t you get the ball rolling rather than merely indicating that the sky is still blue?
