No Jumper: Return of Mr Zone 6 Review

This is by far the most comprehensive (and dare I say, best) review of Gucci’s latest mixtape.

The Return of Mr. Zone 6, by name, is a sequel to 2010′s Mr. Zone 6; however, it’s nothing alike in spirit, aside from sharing a similar production aesthetic. Like Mr. Zone 6, the soundtrack to Return is very dark; Hitchcockian crows caw loudly on both What It Do and Pancakes, which may have more to do with the presence of Waka Flocka Flame than Gucci’s own presence. Zaytoven provides one of his best instrumentals in recent memory on I Don’t Love Her, a song that feels like it belongs to Rocko, despite a showstealing verse from Webbie; despite Gucci having the most limited space on the song, it is still credited to him. Perhaps because The Return of Mr. Zone 6 is credited as a retail mixtape, it’s supposed to excuse how much of a showcase it is for his Brick Squad comrades and long-time friends/heroes (Rocko and OJ have been appearing on Gucci records since the beginning of their respective careers, and the moguls behind No Limit and Cash Money, Master P and Birdman, both appear on this record as guests), but it’d be a better effort overall if more time was given to Gucci.
