Eggleston hits all the right pleasure buttons in your visual cortex. I’ve talked with people who have talked with him, and he really does sit around in his underpants drinking bourbon from glass jars. I suppose you can coast a little if you can work with light like that? It’s a different time. I’d like to see him work now, though. In America. I think that a lot of his images are taken out of context. Rather, that there is no context for them anymore. A lot of those people are not having fun at all. But it looks like fun.
