Hugh & Crye looks like they make some really nice shirts. I dig the wider spread collars, which seem to be a thing this minute. But they have this sizing scheme that’s like, thus—

Tall, Average, or Short X Skinny, Lean, or Broad

Which, sure. They provide a matrix (pictured above) that breaks down the thinking behind their in-house fit… in terms of neck size and sleeve length. So why the fuck don’t you just sell your shirts based on neck size and sleeve length?

The only answer I can think of is that they wouldn’t be able to offer “all the sizes,” which results in them losing some business. With their fit system, Hugh & Crye end up capturing all possible customers, but they end up selling shirts that won’t fit some people very well. I’m not falling for that.

I guess you could say it’s a better system than Large, Medium, or Small. I suppose it is, but if you’re going to sell clothes based on measurements in inches anyway, why not cut out the middleman (read: bewitching metaphor). This is the sort of language problem that shits up my day for some reason.
