Kings of Leon - Use Somebody

For me, this was the song of the year. This year was all about looking back—rather than looking ahead—and this song looks back to two of my favorite years: 2005 and 2003.

2005, because the song is vaguely reminiscent (or steals shamelessly) from “I’ll Believe In Anything,” Wolf Parade’s highest achievement. The year was also one of the highest points in my life, so far.

2003, because the song reminds me of the last time the Kings of Leon really mattered. The year I was abroad in London, and everyone was asking us if we were really into the Kings of Leon. We weren’t. The Britishers I talked with were really obsessed with the Kings of Leon’s over-the-top Americanism. Whatever. But the album really grew on me, and it was a great year.

I haven’t listened to this song the most this year, but—keeping with the theme of looking back—I think I’ll listen to it a lot in the future.
