Lil B
“Unchain Me”
Unimpressed with the beginning of Lil B’s Im Gay. It seems like it picks up with the album’s first single, a quarter of the way through. I like how “Unchain Me” has like a fake Clams Casino production. (Correction: This is a real Clams Casino production [?]. I just thought it seemed ‘like’ a Clams Casino production too much to be on, if that makes sense.) That “Thou shalt not fall” sample from the Lost Boys movie is really good. Really works for me. It’s very Lil B-y. He’s such a rap underdog. I’m glad he’s happy, now.
Also… has anyone mentioned the anti-historicity of the Im Gay’s cover art? Because that’s pretty weird. (It also goes along with this song, duh, unchain me.) I don’t much follow these things, but it seems like Lil B’s based god/I’m god thing has moved onto the next level.
