HEEMS
“New York City Cops”

Duh. This would be my favorite SG/Strokes song because Heems + NYC Cops are raping assholes + murderers + #racewar.

Michael Stewart, Eleanor Bumpurs, Amadou Diallo, Patrick Dorismond, Alberta Spruill, Timothy Stansbury, Abner Louima, Sean Bell, Ousmane Zongo, Randolph Evans, Anthony Baez, Clifford Glover, and Fermin Arzou were senselessly beaten or killed by the NYPD while unarmed.

“Son, do you know what I’m stopping you for?” People maybe miss the point of “99 Problems” sometimes. But I do think people shouldn’t call women “bitches”. I’ve only listened to a third of the tribute, but this, obviously, is a very outside the box take on the Strokes, and probably the most, furthest from the geographic center of the box-type take on the album. (For instance, “Is This It” is a terrible cover—it’s MOR Velvet Underground, but not in the awesome Loaded way, and not in the way people accuse the Strokes of being, either. PBnJ have their own special brand of reductive stink.) Maybe it’s because I’m most familiar with Queens, but Das Racist seems to me to be the most NYC band. From their concerts to their politics to their racial composition. Dunno about you, but my NY is looks like different shades of yellow and brown, all strewn with police cars running red lights.
