The Greatest Idea In The History Of Personal Computing
I’ve been thinking about this idea for a while, but I just thought of a name for it:
*Universal Undo*
It’s not a flashy name, but it’s not a flashy idea. It seems like a heel-of-hand-pressed-to-forehead simple idea. The iPhone has something like it. (Shake it like a… french au pair.) Why doesn’t this exist on the real computers? Have you ever done something minor-but-annoying:
- Accidentally quit a browser
- Closed the wrong tab
- “Learned” a misspelled word
- Deleted a file by mistake
- Minimized the wrong window
- Saved rather than Save Ased
- Overwritten a file
- Accidentally dragged an application/folder off the dock
- Like, done anything minor but slightly time consuming to undo???
Why isn’t there a Universal Undo? I realize it would probably call for keeping like everything you do in your RAM or making a constant real time backup or something. I’m not a computer scientist. But they do all sorts of other seemingly magical shit. Why isn’t there a cross-program, system-wide Universal Undo?
